Spring migration
The move across the arctic tundra

What to expect?
An adventure many people dream of, and only a few take part in. This is one of the most special occasions in our culture.
Polar nights in beautiful nature, and closeness to our herd.
Some days may be slow if the herd is resting from moving, but then we have time to fish and explore the tundra.
You will be included in our family, and most welcome to our table and enjoy Sami food, and perhaps a story or two.

Practical info
We will pick you up at a planned location, and a lesson to handle a snowmobile will be given, or you can choose to be a passenger, or ride in the snowmobile sled if you prefer.
We will travel together to the herd. The times that takes varies on where the herd is but from 20 minutes to 1 hour.
We will provide a place where you sleep. The camp have heating, cooking facilities, and seating area as well as a beds.
Duration
1 - 4 days

As well as our family, you will also meet some of our herding dogs.
This is Ránne.
The journey
We start from Kautokeino, and go north west towards Northern Troms. The journey through the tundra is about 150 kilometers, and the whole trip takes about 2-3 weeks. Depending if the weather is on our side, and if the herd is in good condition.
The crossing is mostly controlled by the herd itself. We move together with them, in their pace.
This picture is from where we arrive after the move. The mountain in the background is the famous Kvænangstindan. The ocean is just below.

The new year start again
Not long after we arrive, the spring does too. The new calves are born, and growing stronger everyday. Soon all the snow have melted away, and summer will finally be here again.
